🔥 THE CORE TRUTH:

We are saved by grace, through faith—not by works.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."

✝️ WHY IT'S IMPORTANT:

1. Salvation is God’s Gift, Not a Wage

“Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.”
— Romans 4:4–5

Paul uses Abraham as an example: he was counted righteous because of his faith, before the law, before circumcision, before any good works.

2. No One Can Boast

If we could be saved by our own good behavior, we could take credit. But:

“...that no one may boast.” — Ephesians 2:9

God gets all the glory in salvation because He did all the saving.

3. Even Our Faith Is a Gift

"...and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God." — Ephesians 2:8

Even the ability to believe is a result of God drawing us to Himself (see John 6:44).

4. We Are Created for Good Works, Not Saved By Them

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
— Ephesians 2:10

➡️ Good works are the fruit of salvation—not the root.

🆚 WHAT ABOUT FAITH AND WORKS?

Some people point to James 2:17:

"Faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself."

That’s true! But James is saying:

• True saving faith always results in a changed life.

• He’s not contradicting Paul, who said we're saved by faith alone.

• Rather, James is emphasizing that real faith is never alone—it shows itself through action.
